Arjarn Prayong
"Introduction to Arsom Silp Institute of the Arts"
Arjarn Prayong is experienced in working as a community architect for Bang Bua Community Development Project, an urban poor housing and environmental development scheme along an old canal in Bangkok, Thailand, under Baan Mankong Program during 2004-2005. Presently, he is the Chair of the School of Architecture, directing the work-base degree programs in architecture and supervising Arsom Silp Institute of the Arts’ community development projects.
Weeraphan Shinawatra
"What lessons should THAIS learn from FLOODING?"
Professor Weeraphan Shinawatra is acting Dean of School of Architecture and Design (SoA+D), King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and Vice President, of ICOMOS, Thailand. He holds a Masters in Architecture from Silpakorn University, Bangkok. He was Vice President of the Society for The Conservation of National Treasure and Environment (SCONTE) from 2010 to 2014 and member of The National Research Council Committee, Philosophy Branch, from 2003 to 2008. He is Editor and co-writer of the pocketbook “Kadeechine Chao Phraya Riverfront communities Tours: 3 Religions 4 Beliefs Cultural Heritage” (2011) and of the book “Rattanakosin and Chao Phraya River Front” (2010). He is a frequent guest speaker at national and international conferences on flood disasters and cultural heritage.
Chris Zevenbergen
"Amphibious Architecture and Design in The Netherlands"
Chris Zevenbergen is professor at the Water Engineering Department of UNESCO-IHE and at TuDelft, The Netherlands. He chairs the Flood Resilience Chair Group of UNESCO-IHE. He is also strategic advisor of the Executive Board of the Dura Vermeer Group NV and Member of the Board of the Public Private Innovation Platform Clean Tech Delta (CTD), The Netherlands. He worked as a researcher on various environmental issues related to the building industry, such as environmental impact assessments, product development, emission modeling, testing procedures, building codes and guidelines in the 1980s followed by 20 years international research and consultancy in environmental engineering and water management of urban systems. In the past 15 years he has accumulated extensive national and international experience with integrated approaches to manage floods in urban environments.
Elizabeth English
"Amphibious Architecture and Design in the Americas"
Dr. Elizabeth English is Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. She was formerly Associate Professor - Research at the LSU Hurricane Center. Her experience in education, practice, teaching and research is in both the fields of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Dr. English is the founder and director of the Buoyant Foundation Project, a not-for-profit organization based in Louisiana and Ontario that works on the development of amphibious foundation systems as a flood mitigation strategy that supports the preservation of traditional housing forms and cultural practices. Current projects focus on the needs of vulnerable low-income communities in south Louisiana, northern Canada and Jamaica. Dr. English holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Urban Planning from Princeton University, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a PhD in Architectural Theory from the University of Pennsylvania.
Koen Olthuis
"Breaking Boundaries using Amphibious Structures"
Koen Olthuis (1971) studied Architecture and Industrial Design at the Delft University of Technology. In 2007 he was chosen as No. 122 on the Time Magazine list of most influential people in the world due to the worldwide interest in water developments. The French magazine Terra Eco chose him as one of the 100 green persons that will change the world in 2011. In 2015 he is selected by an international jury as one of fifty young innovators of the 21st century in the book ‘50Under50’. Building on water has become Olthuis’ life’s work, he is also known as the “Floating Dutchman”. With H2Ope he uses floating technology to upgrading life of the poorest.

SPECIAL TOURS
Special excursions related to amphibious architecture and designing and engineering for floods will be held immediately following the conference. Our participants will have an opportunity to register. There will be day trips to visit the prototype of the Amphibious House in Ayutthaya by the National Housing Agency, and to visit the Bang Krachao area in Bangkok. There will also be a several-day trip to Thakanon Village, a vernacular amphibious village in the south of Thailand.
The excursions will be held immediately after the conference program, so please allow extra days after the conference if you are interested in participating in these trips, and plan your travel accordingly.

We are excited to announce that ICAADE2017 (the second International Conference on Amphibious Architecture, Design & Engineering) will be taking place at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Canada from June 25 to June 28, 2017. ICAADE2015 SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED TODAY!
The first Conference on Amphibious Architecture, Design and Engineering ended today after three days of intense debat and outstanding presentations. The conference has received very positive ratings: 90% of the participants rated the conference as 'excellent' and will attend the next ICAADE conference which will be held in 2017.

All participants are warmly welcomed to attend ICAADE2015's Welcome Reception, which will be held at the Grand Mercure Bangkok Fortune. The Welcome Reception will start at 18:00 on Wednesday of 26 August.

STUDENT DESIGN WORKSHOP HAS STARTED TODAY!
After two lectures the three teams made a tour by boat on the Chao Phraya River to get a feel of Bangkok's relationship with water.

BOMB EXPLOSION BANGKOK: ICAADE2015 WILL GO ON
A bomb has exploded at a Hindu shrine in central BKK some 15hrs ago. Our heart goes out to those who have been effected.
As there has not issued any warning against travel to Bangkok (yet), the conference will go on as planned.

STUDENTS FROM 6 NATIONALITIES PARTICIPATE IN STUDENT DESIGN WORKSHOP
Students from six different nationalities will participate in the student design workshop. The workshop will be held from 20 to 25 August 2015. Registration will close on August 5.
